The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife has put out their schedule for stocking salmon fry in the Westfield River and its tributaries this spring. WRWA is committed to providing 8-10 volunteers to stock on Saturdays April 17 and May 1, and volunteers are needed on the other dates listed below as well. Call Caleb Slater's voicemail at 508-792-7270 (extension 133) the day/evening before to confirm the schedule!! Bring boots or waders and a lunch. Meet at the indicated location at 8:00 , with an expected 8:30 start. Some of the sites are in upstream sections of the river (Chester, Becket, etc.), so be prepared for some driving.
Wednesday, April 14: Meet at Tekoa Country Club on Rt. 20 about 3 miles W of the center of Westfield. Stocking will be done in Pond Brook, Potash Brook, Stage Brook, Roaring Brook (both East and West Branches) and in the Little River.
Thursday, April 15: Meet at Tekoa Country Club on Rt. 20 about 3 miles W of the center of Westfield. Stocking will be done in Walker Brook, Yokum Brook, Depot Brook, Shaker Mill Brook and Factory Brook.
Saturday, April 17: WRWA Day!! Meet at Westfield State College at the entrance to the Commuter Parking Lot on Western Ave. about 3 miles west of downtown Westfield. Stocking will be done in Munn Brook and Dickenson Brook in the Granville/Southwick area.
Wednesday, April 21: Meet at Tekoa Country Club on Rt. 20 about 3 miles W of the center of Westfield. Stocking will be done in Dead Branch (Westfield), Bronson Brook, Kearney Brook, Tower Brook and Kinne Brook.
Saturday, May 1: WRWA Day!! Meet at Gateway Regional High School in Huntington (Take Rt. 20 west to Huntington, then north on 112 for about 1.5 miles and left just beyond the Granville Country Store and just before crossing the river - the high school is just a few hundred yards down the road on the left). Stocking will be done along the Middle Branch of the Westfield River above the Littleville Lake.
Wednesday, May 5: Meet at Tekoa Country Club on Rt. 20 about 3 miles W of the center of Westfield. Stocking will be done along the West Branch of the Westfield River.
